3 Reasons to Try Apple Cider Vinegar

Apple cider vinegar is all the rage right now! It is one of the fasted growing trends in the natural food market and for good reasons.

Apple cider vinegar is made from (shocker) apples! It naturally contains vitamins like B1, B2, B6, C, biotic, folic acid, niacin and pantothenic acid. It also contains small amounts of minerals like sodium, phosphorus, potassium, calcium, iron and magnesium. It contains fiber in the form of pectin, pre and probiotics, enzymes and healing acids that are good for the body.

Vinegar has long been revered as a remedy for a host of ailments--from infections to pain, wounds and skin issues. As the pharmaceutical revolution took hold, vinegar fell into the background. But she's back with new science to support her!

3 Reasons to Try Apple Cider Vinegar

  1. Balance Blood Sugar Levels- One study of people with Diabetes Type 2 (who did not take insulin), showed that if they took 2 tbsp of ACV at night before sleep, they have lower blood sugar in the mornings. Another study found that taking ACV before a high carbohydrate meal had lower blood sugar levels after the meal as compared to those who did not take the ACV. Even the American Diabetes Association concluded that "vinegar can significantly improve post-prandial insulin sensitivity in insulin-resistant subjects". (Diabetes Care Journal, January 2004).

  2. Infection Fighter- Several studies have validated what our ancestors already knew- ACV has anti-microbial activity. One study demonstrated that ACV showed "multiple antimicrobial potential with clinical therapeutic implications" (Yagnik, Serafin, and Shah, Scientific Reports, Jan 29 2018).

  3. Weight Loss and Improved BMI -Though I do not advocate diets and dieting, when the body is functioning properly, often people (with weight to lose) will lose weight as a natural side effect of becoming healthier overall. One study showed that malic acid (a main acid in ACV), increased satiety, leading to a feeling of fullness. There were 175 people with obesity who took 1-2 tbsp of ACV per day which led to reduced belly fat and weight loss (between 2-3 lbs on average) over 12 weeks. Another study found that body weight, BMI, visceral fat, waist circumference and serum triglycerides were significantly lower in the vinegar vs the placebo group. Of course, there is no magic pill and a healthy lifestyle and diet are of utmost importance.

Are you convinced yet? ACV is safe and promotes overall health. Try some today!
